If your ceiling is under about 11 feet, look hard at mid-rise scissors or a baseplate two-post before you give up on the idea entirely. And if you’re servicing anything with a GVWR that makes you nervous, size the capacity up, not down. Nobody has ever regretted buying more capacity than they needed; plenty of people regret the opposite.

Vehicle mix matters here too. Ceiling height. Measure to the lowest obstruction, not to the peak. Garage door tracks, opener rails, HVAC trunks, and light fixtures decide your real number. Power. Most home installs run on 208–240V single phase. Commercial shops often have three phase available, which is worth using when it’s there. Get the electrician scheduled before the install date — that single detail saves more headaches than anything else.

Climate. Maryland gives you humid Chesapeake summers and road salt from November through March. That combination is hard on lift hardware. We recommend galvanized or powder-coated components where it makes sense, especially for unheated detached garages and outdoor fleet applications. Keep the columns wiped down, grease the slider blocks, and don’t let salt brine sit on a cable or a lock ladder all winter.
