Mobile column lifts. For heavy stuff — box trucks, shuttle buses, plow trucks, municipal fleets. Sets of four or six columns that move where you need them, which matters in older Minnesota shops where you can’t tear up the floor to add permanent bays.
Alignment lifts. Four-post or scissor alignment racks with slip plates and turnplates. If you’re doing alignments in a state that runs frost heave, potholes, and gravel roads every spring, this equipment pays for itself in repeat work.

Choosing the Right Lift for Your Building

We ask a short list of questions before we quote anything. What are you lifting, how tall is your ceiling, how thick and how old is your concrete, what power do you have available, and what do you want to be doing with that bay in five years? Concrete. Most two-post lifts want a minimum thickness and cured strength before anchoring. Newer suburban garages in Maple Grove, Lakeville, and Woodbury are frequently fine. Older detached garages in the Twin Cities core, farm shops, and 1950s slabs are the ones we ask hard questions about. Cutting and pouring a properly sized footing pad is common and it’s not a big deal — it’s just cheaper to know beforehand.
Frost and slab movement. Northern Minnesota freeze-thaw cycles are brutal on unreinforced concrete. Cracked or heaved slabs need attention before a lift goes on top of them.
Ceiling height. A lot of Minnesota attached garages run 8 to 9 feet, which pushes you toward mid-rise, low-rise, or a shorter four-post storage lift. Pole barns and shops around St Cloud, Rochester, and out in the lake country often have 12 to 16 feet, which opens up full-rise clearfloor two-posts.
Power. Many home lifts run on standard single-phase 208–240V; commercial and heavy-duty units may want three-phase. We tell you exactly what the unit needs so your electrician isn’t guessing on install day.
Cold-weather operation. Hydraulic fluid thickens in an unheated shop. We’ll spec appropriate fluid and talk through cycle behavior so your lift doesn’t feel sluggish in January. Salt and brine dragged in on vehicles also means wiping down carriages and lubricating properly — small habits that add years.
