It’s a short haul down I-35 to Kansas City and I-29 to St. Joseph, and our trucks run the I-70 corridor to Columbia and St. Louis constantly. That proximity matters when you’re buying a piece of equipment that weighs a couple thousand pounds and has to be bolted into your floor correctly the first time. When folks call us looking at car lifts for sale in Missouri, they usually already know they want a lift — what they need is somebody who will tell them the truth about their slab, their ceiling, and their power before money changes hands.

The Missouri Shops We Work With

Missouri is not one market. It’s several, and each one buys differently.

Kansas City metro — including Independence, Blue Springs, Lee’s Summit, and across the line into Overland Park — is heavy on independent repair shops, fleet yards, and the auto manufacturing supply chain around the Claycomo and Kansas City assembly plants. Lots of two-post and alignment work.
St. Louis and St. Charles County — St. Charles, St. Peters, and O’Fallon are full of newer subdivisions with three-car garages, which means a steady stream of homeowners buying four-post storage lifts. The city and North County side skews commercial: transmission shops, tire stores, municipal fleets.
Springfield and the southwest — Springfield and Joplin sit on I-44 with a big trucking and diesel presence, plus a strong hot rod and restoration culture in the Ozarks.
Columbia and mid-Missouri — university town, dealership work, and a surprising number of collector cars stored in outbuildings.
St. Joseph and the northwest — agriculture, food processing, and fleet maintenance shops that need something rugged and simple.

Types of Lifts and Who Should Buy Which

Most of the confusion we hear on the phone comes down to picking a style. Here’s how we break it down.

Two-post lifts. The default for repair work. Wheels hang free, you get full access to brakes, suspension, exhaust, and drivetrain. Asymmetric versions let you open car doors in a tight bay; symmetric handles trucks and vans better. Most Missouri shops land on a 10,000 or 12,000 lb capacity.
Four-post lifts. Drive-on, no arms to position, and the go-to for storage. If you’re in a St. Charles or Lee’s Summit garage trying to park two cars in one bay, this is what you want. Add rolling jacks and it becomes a service lift too.
Scissor and mid-rise lifts. Great where ceiling height is limited — think older brick buildings in midtown St. Louis or a detail shop with a low header. Portable mid-rise units work well for tire and brake work and can be rolled out of the way.
Mobile column lifts. For fleets. Municipal garages, school bus barns, refuse fleets, and ag operations in northwest Missouri use sets of four or six columns to lift heavy trucks without pouring a pit or a special foundation.
Alignment lifts. Four-post scissor or runway lifts with slip plates and turnplates. If you’re doing alignments as a profit center in Springfield or Joplin, buy the lift built for it rather than adapting one that isn’t.

When someone asks us what to buy, we ask what percentage of their work is wheels-off. If it’s over about half, two-post. If it’s mostly storage, inspections, fluid service, and detailing, four-post. Plenty of shops we’ve outfitted run both.

Missouri Install Realities: Concrete, Ceilings, Power, Weather

This is where a lot of online car lift purchases go sideways, and it’s the reason we won’t quote a lift without asking a few questions.

Concrete. Two-post lifts generally need a minimum of 4 inches of 3,000 PSI concrete, and more for higher capacities. Missouri soils vary a lot — the loess bluffs up around St. Joseph, the clay in the Kansas City metro, and the karst limestone under much of the Ozarks all behave differently under a slab. Older garages in St. Louis city and Independence frequently have 3-inch slabs poured decades ago with no rebar. We’d rather tell you up front that you need a cut-and-pour pad than have an anchor pull out later. If you don’t know your slab thickness, we’ll walk you through how to check it.

Ceiling height. Measure to the lowest obstruction, not the peak. Garage door tracks, opener rails, HVAC ducts, and light fixtures eat clearance. A standard clearfloor two-post typically wants 12 feet or more; baseplate models drop that requirement considerably, and low-ceiling four-post and scissor options exist for 9- and 10-foot garages. This comes up constantly in the older bungalow garages around Columbia and the walkout basements in the hills west of Springfield.

Power. Most residential installs run a 220V single-phase circuit. Commercial shops may already have three-phase. We spec the motor to what you actually have on site so you’re not surprised by an electrician bill you didn’t budget.

Climate. Missouri gives you humid 95-degree Julys and ice storms in January, plus road salt from every winter maintenance crew between Hannibal and Cape Girardeau. Salt and humidity are hard on cylinders, cables, and powder coat. Unheated pole barns swing with the seasons and sweat on the first warm day. We recommend galvanized or upgraded finishes where it makes sense, and we talk through hydraulic fluid choices for unconditioned buildings. Lifts sitting outside — and we’ve installed a few — need a different spec entirely.

Delivery, Professional Installation, and Ongoing Service

We deliver anywhere in Missouri. Curbside freight is available if you have equipment and know what you’re doing, but most of our customers want it handled. Our installers are trained, vetted local crews backed by flying techs when a job needs it, and they show up with the anchors, the hammer drill, the torque specs, and the shims.

A typical install runs a few hours for a two-post in a prepped garage. Longer if we’re coring concrete, running conduit, or setting an alignment lift where level tolerances get tight. We test under load, adjust the locks and cables, and show you how to operate it safely before we leave.

After the sale, we handle annual inspections and repair. ANSI/ALI guidance calls for a qualified annual inspection, and most commercial insurance carriers in Missouri expect documentation. We service what we sell and plenty of lifts we didn’t — cables, cylinders, seals, power units, arm restraints, lock assemblies.
