Challenger SRM10: The Compact Mid-Rise Scissor Lift

Alignment Machine For Sale Boca Raton, FL

Contact Us

The challenger srm10 is Challenger’s compact mid-rise scissor — 10,000 lb of lift capacity, a low-profile drive-over ramp, and a footprint small enough to tuck into a bay that cannot take a full two-post. Every month our install crew at Auto Lift Services drops SRM10s into small shops around central Iowa where the owner needs wheels-free access without giving up an entire bay to a column-style hoist. We stock, install, and service the SRM10 across Des Moines, Ames, Cedar Rapids, Ankeny, Iowa City, and the surrounding Iowa metros.

What the challenger srm10 actually is

The challenger srm10 is a single-scissor mid-rise lift built to take a car or light truck up to roughly waist and chest height so a tech can work wheels-free without crawling under a floor jack. It is not a full two-post — you cannot get a technician standing under the frame doing exhaust work — but for tire service, brake jobs, quick suspension pulls, and general below-deck access, the SRM10 is faster than a floor jack and takes half the ceiling of a CL10.

Because the deck is short and the lifting stroke is limited, the SRM10 is deliberately positioned as a supplemental hoist rather than a primary one. Most of the shops we install them in already have a CL10 or an LE10 running the day-in day-out work — the SRM10 covers the overflow, or lives in the alignment bay where wheels-free tire rotations happen ten times a day.

Where the SRM10 fits in a small shop

A two-bay independent shop in Ankeny or a rural garage outside Ames typically does not have the ceiling height or the concrete depth for another full-size two-post. What they do have is fifteen feet of open bay floor and a need for a second lift point that can turn tires and brake work quickly. That is the SRM10’s exact sweet spot — a supplemental lift that adds throughput without adding overhead structure.

We have also installed SRM10s in tire shops that already have a rack of mobile columns for the trucks — the SRM10 covers the passenger-car side of the business. Same story at body shops where the main hoists stay tied up on the estimate cars and the SRM10 handles the quick mechanical work that keeps insurance jobs moving. In every case, the lift’s compact geometry and drive-over ramps let it disappear into the corner of a bay when it is not in use.

Specs that matter on the challenger srm10

The challenger srm10 is rated for 10,000 lb, which comfortably covers full-size half-ton pickups, most three-quarter tons, and every passenger car on the road. Lifting height at the pad is around 48 inches, which is enough to put the tech at seated shoulder height under the vehicle — not as tall as a full two-post, but tall enough for tire, brake, and lower-suspension work. Rise time is fast, usually under 30 seconds on shop air, which matters when you are rotating tires all day.

The pad geometry is designed for OEM lift points on passenger cars — rubber pads with height extensions come standard for the trucks and SUVs. Power is single-phase 220V on the version we sell most, which means you do not need a three-phase panel or a rotary phase converter to run one in an independent shop.

SRM10 install in an Iowa bay

Concrete has to be right. Challenger’s SRM10 install manual specifies a minimum concrete thickness and cure age, and skipping that step is how you end up with a lift that shifts under load. Our install crew shows up with a Hilti and takes a core sample if there is any question about slab thickness — we have walked away from shops where the concrete simply was not there, because dropping any mid-rise on 3.5-inch slab is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Once the slab checks out, the install itself is quick. The SRM10 does not need the drive-over ramps buried in a recess unless the shop wants a completely flush floor. Most shops we work with in Des Moines, Iowa City, and Cedar Rapids leave the ramps surface-mounted and call it good. Bolt-down, air hookup, electrical, safety check, sign off. Half a day if the shop is clear.

Wear points and service on the SRM10

The SRM10 has fewer wear items than a two-post — no equalizer cables, no chains, no arm restraints. The main service points are the hydraulic cylinder seals, the mechanical locking pawls, and the drive-over ramp hinges. On a shop that is running the lift dozens of cycles per day, we are typically out for a seal service every three to five years. Locking pawls almost never fail if they get lubricated once a year.

Where we do see issues is on the electrical side. The solenoid valve that dumps hydraulic pressure to lower the lift is the single most common failure point on any scissor design, and we keep those valves on the shelf in Ames so we can turn a service call around same-day if you are inside the central Iowa metro. See our scissor lift maintenance guide for the annual walk-through.

SRM10 vs the DX77 drive-on scissor

Shops shopping the challenger srm10 usually cross-shop the DX77, and the two lifts solve different problems. The SRM10 lifts the vehicle by the frame, wheels hanging — that is what you want for tire work, brake work, and suspension. The DX77 lifts the vehicle by the wheels, wheels loaded — that is what you want for alignment, ride-height inspections, and anything that needs the suspension compressed to ride height.

A shop that only does tires and brakes gets the SRM10. A shop that does alignments and needs to check ride height gets the DX77. A shop that does both usually ends up with one of each, with the DX77 living in the alignment bay under a Hunter aligner. See our mid-rise buyer’s guide for a full comparison across the class.
