It is not a commercial-only feature. When the vehicle rises off the pads, the arms want to swing outward, and the restraints lock them in place. A properly rated two-post lift will hold a 7,000 lb EV without complaint, provided you are using a model rated for that weight class and you are placing the pads on the OEM lift points. What buyers get wrong: assuming the arms will find the lift point on their own. They will not. On most EVs, the reinforced pinch welds are inboard of where you would guess on a comparable gas car. Print the OEM pad chart and mark the pad positions on the floor with tape until you have muscle memory. If the arms are contacting body panels instead of reinforced points, no arm restraint or safety cam will save you. Myth: You Can Always Hear a Bad Safety Cam
No. A worn cam ladder or a broken pawl often makes no noise at all until it fails under load. Slow drift while parked usually is not the cylinder. It is the check valve in the power unit, or a nicked O-ring on the lowering solenoid, or air in the line. We see a lot of southeast Iowa owners quote a whole cylinder rebuild when a small seal kit and a bleed would fix the problem for a fraction of the cost. That said, if you have real cylinder seal failure, we stock kits for every brand we install and ship them anywhere. Home garage lifts under seasonal storage duty usually go 8 to 12 years before the seals genuinely need attention, as long as you keep the shafts clean and do not let the hydraulic fluid go milky.
