Duty cycle, motor spec, and hydraulic uptime
Bargain 2-posts run 2 or 3 HP single-phase motors. A dealership 2 post car lift needs 220V, 3 or 5 HP, and either single- or three-phase depending on the building service. Rotary and Challenger heavy-duty models spec 5 HP with 30-second full-rise pumps. The hydraulic reservoir should be 3 gallons or more so the pump does not cavitate on the twentieth cycle of a busy morning. Cables should be 3/8-inch aircraft-grade with rolled and swaged thimble ends, not just crimped ferrules. If your quote sheet does not list motor HP, reservoir volume, and cable spec, it is not a dealer-grade quote and you should ask a follow-up question before you sign.
