Or they occasionally lift a car with the drivetrain still in it, engine and transmission and battery all on the frame, which pushes past forty-five hundred. Question two: what warranty do you actually need?
Structural warranty on automotive two post lifts ranges from two years to lifetime. Parts warranty ranges from one year to ten. What you actually need depends on how long you plan to own the lift and how heavy the duty is. For a restoration shop planning to keep the lift twenty years, we recommend a structural warranty of at least ten years and a parts warranty of at least five. Anything less and you’re rolling the dice on out-of-warranty repairs in years six through ten, which is exactly the window where seals start leaking and cables show wear. The central Iowa shop was looking at a two-year total warranty option that was a mid-hundreds discount from the ten-year structural option. We walked them through what a hydraulic cylinder replacement would cost out of warranty in year six — in the mid-thousands including labor. They picked the ten-year warranty. That’s the math to run: how likely is a mid-thousands out-of-warranty repair between years three and ten, and does the warranty premium beat that probability? For a busy shop, it almost always does.
Rotary vs Challenger vs BendPak: what’s really covered
Warranty coverage on automotive two post lifts varies more than the brochures suggest. Rotary offers a lifetime structural warranty and a five-year parts warranty on their commercial 2-post lifts. Challenger offers ten years structural, five years parts. BendPak offers five years structural and one year on some parts categories. The real difference isn’t the duration — it’s the exclusions and the claim process. Rotary and Challenger both cover freight on warranty parts within the US. BendPak’s warranty terms on freight vary by dealer. All three exclude cables under normal wear (cables are always considered wear items). All three exclude damage from improper concrete or under-spec installation. Rotary and Challenger both require you to file through a certified dealer, which is us for Iowa and the region — so filing is a phone call. BendPak lets you file direct online, which is faster but also puts the entire documentation burden on you. Neither approach is wrong; they’re different workflows. How to file a warranty claim without losing a week
The single biggest complaint we hear from shops filing warranty claims on any brand of automotive two post lifts is the documentation delay. A claim needs: serial number of the lift, install date, install invoice, photo of the failure, description of when the failure happened, and any duty-cycle records if you have them. Shops that keep this documentation together file claims in an afternoon. Shops that scramble to find the serial number and the install invoice lose three to five days before the claim even starts moving. The one warranty exclusion that catches restoration shops

If the slab is under four inches or under 3,000 PSI at any point under the columns, the warranty is voided the day the lift is bolted down. The manufacturer doesn’t have to prove the slab caused a failure; they just have to prove the install was out of spec. Every restoration shop should core-sample the slab before install. Cost is in the low three figures. If the slab comes back under spec, either overlay it with new concrete rated to spec, or move the install to a different bay.
