Do this measurement first because everything downstream — budget, workflow, add-ons — depends on which lift families remain on the table after the ceiling constraint is applied.
Node Two: What You Are Actually Lifting
Race cars are light. Really light. A prepared road-racing car in the crew chief’s stable weighed less than half of a commuter SUV. That opens options a general shop does not have. Lower-rated lifts — even a 6,000-pound-capacity mid-rise scissor — are appropriate and often preferred because they carry a much lower ceiling profile and a smaller footprint. Stands are cheap and easy to store, but the ergonomics are miserable and the safety margin is thin.
