The equivalent safety on a scissor is the pad-retention system: rubber-topped pads with lips that keep the vehicle frame from sliding off, plus mechanical locks in the pad-adjust telescoping tubes. When you set the pads, you push each one against a positive stop, and the lock engages. On a drive-on scissor, the equivalent is wheel chocks or a wheel-rest cutout in the runway. Before every lift, confirm the pads are seated and the chocks are placed. Skipping that step is where farm-shop lifts fail.
Safety-cam engagement: hearing and seeing the click

Two, factory paperwork and a paper manual in the shipping crate. Three, ALI certification or equivalent listed on the unit’s data plate. Four, hydraulic reservoir accessible for fluid changes without disassembly. Five, safety-cam inspection cutout visible. Six, pad or runway configuration matched to your work mix (frame-engaging for wheel-off, drive-on for fluid-only). Seven, warranty terms in writing, both parts and labor, and a service network you can actually call.
