Tire rotation duty cycle

Tire rotations are the highest-cycle, lowest-height duty a dealership lift sees. The vehicle goes up to roughly 48 inches of rise, tires come off, tires go back on, vehicle comes down. A full column-height cycle is not required, and the lift never sees full-weight loads for extended durations. This is the friendly duty cycle. The stress on the lift comes from cycle count, not peak load. Cables see a full tension cycle every rotation. Chain-drive lifts see chain tension cycles at the same rate. Hydraulic seals see full-stroke cycles at the same rate. The wear item on a rotation-heavy autolift garage is the cable set and the hydraulic cylinder seals, in that order.

The consumables budget for a 20-year rotation-duty two-post lift runs like this: two cable replacements at $600 each, one hydraulic seal kit at $250, two arm-restraint gear rebuilds at $180 each, and one power unit rebuild or replacement at $1,400. Total consumables over 20 years: $3,210. That is roughly $160 per year in wear parts. On a well-maintained ALI-certified lift, that is the honest number. On a bargain lift without a parts pipeline, the same list becomes unavailable at year 12 and the lift is retired early.

Rotary SPO10 lifecycle

Rotary has been building lifts under that model family since the 1990s, and the current SPO10 shares parts backward through several generations. That backward compatibility matters at year 15 when a component fails and the shop needs a replacement in 48 hours. Hydraulic seals typically last 12 to 15 years before an oil-past-piston condition develops. Arm-restraint gears usually make it 15 years unless they are jammed by an operator forcing an arm past a stuck lock. Power units are the wildcard: some run 20 years untouched, others need a rebuild at year 10 if the reservoir seal weeps.

The maintenance schedule we recommend for a dealership autolift garage is a monthly grease pass on the arm pins and swivel bushings, quarterly cable-tension inspection, semi-annual hydraulic fluid check, and annual ALI-certified third-party inspection. That schedule catches every failure mode before it strands a technician or damages a customer vehicle. The annual inspection cost is $200 to $350 depending on the third-party inspector, and it is the cheapest insurance in the shop.

Downtime cost for a Marion dealership

Downtime is the hidden cost of a cheap lift.
