What they were not sure about was whether to buy new, buy used, or stretch the budget for a bigger lift than they needed today. The Used vs New Decision

He decided new was worth it because the warranty covered him for the first three years while the shop’s revenue grew. Six months later he told us it was the right call. He had zero downtime, zero surprise parts orders, and the manufacturer covered a bad hydraulic solenoid at month four. That call alone paid for the price difference between used and new.

What Broke in Year One

He would not buy used. And he would not go smaller on capacity, because the extra headroom made two service jobs easier that would have been marginal on a 9,000 lb unit. The Numbers After Twelve Months

By month twelve, the RV shop had cycled the lift roughly 720 times. That averages to about two cycles per business day, which is on the low end for a shop but reasonable for a mixed storage-and-service operation. Cable stretch measured within spec. Anchor bolt torque held. Total downtime for the year: one afternoon during the solenoid replacement, which we scheduled around a slow customer day.

Predictable, small maintenance costs are what he wanted, and that is what he got. Year two he expects even lower cost because the 90-day inspection cadence catches issues before they escalate.
