The first real service job on the new lift was a tire rotation on a 34-foot Class A motorhome. The operator drove the coach up on the runways, engaged the safety locks at working height, and pulled all four tires on rolling jacks. On paper it was routine. In practice, the tech discovered that the standard rolling jacks that came with the lift did not have quite enough capacity headroom for the motorhome’s front wheel weight, which was heavier than a comparable straight truck. Adding it after install requires shipping the runway back to the factory or a field cutting job that is more expensive than the original option. The second thing he would change is asking us for a written maintenance calendar on install day. He built one himself after the first quarterly check found the small seal weep, but a calendar on day one would have caught the same thing a month earlier. We now ship every RV-shop install with a laminated year-one calendar tacked to the wall next to the power unit. That is a free change on our end and a real risk reduction for the shop.
