Door Swing: The Second Number Nobody Measures

The columns of a two-post cannot be positioned where the door’s swing arc will strike them, and the vehicle on the lift cannot obstruct the door track. Then during install they realize the passenger-side column has to move eighteen inches, which changes the electrical run, the anchor pattern, and possibly whether the lift fits at all in the space. Sketch the door swing on the floor with painter’s tape before you buy. Include hood clearance for whatever vehicle you plan to lift. Measure twice, buy once. Over the life of a restoration lift, call it fifteen to twenty-five years for a hobbyist who lifts one to five vehicles per week, you will replace some car lift parts. Over years of restoration work the rubber and plastic components take real damage.
