On a scissor lift with a full platform, the scissor mechanism is directly under the car — that’s fine for a rotor swap where you’re working at the wheel, but it’s a nuisance for driveline work where you want to drop a subframe or swing an axle out toward the fender well.

A portable car lift for home garage in mobile 4-post configuration solves this if you spec rolling jacks. The 4-post platform holds the car, the rolling jacks lift the wheels off the platform, and you have full swing room for control arms and half-shafts. Without the jacks, a 4-post is a storage tool, not a service tool. For a body-shop pro doing CV work, jacks aren’t optional. If you can’t afford the jacks in this budget cycle, get the 4-post and save for jacks over six months. Or, alternatively, go with a mid-rise scissor plus a good floor jack and jack stands for CV work — it’s a step back from full-access, but it works and it’s cheaper. Slab, Anchoring, and Portable Reality

Delivery Into Western Illinois: Freight and Logistics

Shipping from our Ames warehouse into western Illinois is a routine LTL run. Expect two to five business days depending on the terminal your carrier uses. ALI Gold means the sample passed. Warranty means the manufacturer honors what they promised on your specific unit. Read the fine print. BendPak’s home-tier lifts typically carry 5-year structural / 1-year hydraulic / 6-month wear-item warranties. Atlas is generally 5/1/1. Rotary and Challenger don’t play heavy in the pure-home portable space; their portables are more mid-rise scissor for commercial mobile-service use.

What matters for a body-shop foreman is where you send the warranty claim. If you bought from a big-box drop-shipper, you’re calling a call center. If you bought from an authorized dealer like us, we handle the claim and often ship you a warranty part before the manufacturer even processes the paperwork. That’s not a promise every dealer keeps, but it’s how we operate. If you’re building toward a full second-career shop, look at commercial 9,000-lb lifts even though they’re bolt-down, because that’s where you’re headed anyway.

Whatever you choose, get it in writing. Freight quote, delivery date, warranty terms, dealer service commitment.
