Start with the frame under the vehicle, not the price sheet

As long as the locks are engaged, the hydraulic system can lose all pressure without the car moving an inch.
Budget tier: sub-mid, mid, and commercial

Ceiling height and drive-over versus flush-mount
Ceiling height is the constraint that decides whether a full-rise scissor lift for automotive work fits in a given shop at all. A full-rise scissor puts a 60-inch-tall vehicle to about 132 inches at the top of the roof — you need at least eleven feet of clearance from floor to the lowest point of any obstruction. That’s rafters, lights, garage door tracks, HVAC vents, and pipes. In an older restoration shop with a nine-foot ceiling, the full-rise conversation is over and we’re back to mid-rise.
Drive-over versus flush-mount is the other decision. Drive-over ramps sit the scissor on top of the slab and require the vehicle to roll up a ramp onto the deck. Flush-mount cuts the deck into the concrete so the top surface sits at floor level. Flush-mount is prettier and easier on low cars, but it’s a concrete job that runs a couple thousand dollars for the pit alone and voids the ability to relocate the lift later. For a restoration shop that owns the building, flush-mount is worth it on low-slung cars. For a shop that leases or plans to move, drive-over is the answer every time. We’ve cut both configurations and we’ve relocated exactly zero flush-mount lifts without pouring new concrete at the destination.
Warranty and support after the sale
The warranty on a new scissor from Rotary or Challenger runs one to two years on structural components and ninety days on wearable parts like cables and hoses. That’s industry standard and no one is significantly better or worse. The real question isn’t the warranty period — it’s who answers the phone in year three when a safety lock stops engaging on rung four and you have a customer’s Chevelle sitting at half-rise.
