Before we quote anyone a scissor lift for automotive farm-shop work, we walk them through six items. Capacity — how heavy is the heaviest thing you’ll put on it. Footprint — will it fit in your bay without eating your bench space. Slab — is your concrete rated to hold the anchors under load. And financing — what payment schedule matches your revenue cycle.
On a farm shop, the last one is different than on a commercial shop, because revenue is seasonal and cash flow isn’t monthly-linear. The core came back at 4.75 inches of clean concrete over a fiber mat that predated modern rebar practice. Item two — ceiling and clearance from farm equipment

Mid-rise pad-style scissors are marginal for wheel bearing work. The pads are between the wheels, and you’re working over the pads to reach the hubs. Full-rise scissors are better because you can walk around the vehicle at the lift’s raised height and have the hub at chest level. He ended up with a full-rise unit specifically because of the wheel bearing use case. On the first job he ran after install, a Chevy 2500 front bearing swap, he cut his wrench time by more than half compared to the jack-stand approach he’d been using for a decade. That was the moment he stopped second-guessing the purchase. Height matters, and matching the lift to the job is more important than saving a few dollars on the sticker.
Item four — financing terms actually available
Financing on a scissor lift for automotive personal-shop use is not the same as commercial equipment financing. Most manufacturer financing programs want a business tax ID and commercial credit history. He didn’t have that. He was buying as a private individual through his farm operation. Path one: a personal installment loan through his farm’s usual bank, using the lift as collateral if the bank accepts it or as an unsecured loan if they don’t. Path two: a manufacturer or dealer financing program with 12- to 24-month zero-percent APR terms, typically requiring a hard credit pull and a soft financial statement.

Even with a zero-APR program, twelve equal monthly payments against a mid five-figure lift purchase is real money for a small operation. He mapped the payment schedule against his revenue calendar before he signed. Months four through nine hit during spring and summer, which are his lowest revenue months. Months ten through fifteen — extending into his second harvest — hit during his highest revenue months. On the twelve-month program, he was going to feel the payments in June and July and barely notice them in October and November.

It would have — smaller payments spread over more months — but the 24-month term didn’t have the same zero-percent APR and would have added meaningful interest cost. Two weeks after order, we drove to his shop with a two-tech crew and a pallet of lift components. Slab check was first.
