The first thing to know about lifting EVs is that they are heavier than the equivalent internal-combustion cars, sometimes dramatically. A Tesla Model Y is about 4,400 pounds. A Mustang Mach-E GT is about 4,900. A Rivian R1T is around 7,000 pounds, a full ton heavier than a Silverado 1500 crew cab short bed. Wear happens even in ideal conditions because seals are compressible rubber compounds and hydraulic fluid is a lubricant that ages. New cylinders make sense when the bore itself is damaged: scored from contaminated fluid, corroded from moisture, or dented from external impact. In those cases the seals cannot hold on a damaged bore, and a rebuild kit is a temporary patch. We can tell the difference on inspection. For most home-garage lifts hitting year ten or twelve, the answer is a rebuild kit. For lifts that have been abused or ignored, sometimes it is new cylinders. The EV Brake Job Reality
