And a photo of the intended install location taken from three angles.
That list catches ninety percent of the surprises that turn into change orders during install. If your ceiling is 11 feet 6 inches, you can still fit a two-post car lift automotive but you need overhead-cable trolley routing or a floorplate model, and both have consequences. If your slab is three and a half inches you need an anchor pad. If your electrical drop is on the far wall you need to plan the trench or the power unit’s cable run. Arms, pads, and pickup points for older half-tons
Farm-country half-tons include a lot of pre-2010 Silverados, F-150s, and 2500-series pickups that were engineered before the OEM pickup points got clean and consistent. Getting a modern car lift automotive under those trucks means dropped-extension arms with adapter stacks that will not slip when a technician leans into a CV joint puller. Get the arms with the swivel pad and the stackable adapter set from day one — do not try to add them later, because the price gap is wider aftermarket.
Pad geometry matters more than the brochure suggests. A round swivel pad grips a factory pickup point beautifully but does poorly on a truck frame with a flat lip. A truck-adapter pad with a lip catcher is the fix, and any commercial lift will offer them as an add-on. If you routinely lift older pickups by the frame rails, order the truck adapters up front and mount them on the arms permanently. The tech will not fight with them mid-job. When a customer trades that truck in ten years later and you resell your lift, the well-cared-for arms with matching factory pads and adapters will be worth substantially more than a set that has been used with a set of random blocks stacked under them.
Slab and ceiling: get these wrong once
Slab and ceiling are the two failure modes that ruin an install even after the correct lift arrives. Farm-shop slabs vary wildly — some are three-and-a-half inches of unreinforced concrete over dirt, some are six inches of well-cured pour with rebar. A car lift automotive install requires a slab of specific thickness and cure to hold the anchor bolts under load. We drill a test hole before we quote the anchors, and if the slab is thin we quote a pad shot that saw-cuts and pours the correct pad in place.
