There is no exotic phase requirement for a normal home four-post or hobby-duty two-post. This surprises people who have heard shop conversations about three-phase equipment. Three-phase is a commercial-shop consideration, not a home consideration. The specific voltage depends on the model. Some smaller four-posts and mid-rise scissors run on 110-volt because the pump motor is modestly sized. Larger four-posts and two-posts step up to 220-volt for faster raise times and better motor life under load. Either voltage is achievable in almost any Dubuque garage with a modern panel. A licensed electrician can pull a dedicated circuit from the panel to the lift location in most single-family homes without any panel upgrade. Do not run the cord under a vehicle path where a floor jack, creeper, or dolly could roll over it. Do not staple the cord to the wall in a way that stresses the strain relief at the plug. Grounding, GFCI, and code considerations

Most residential garages fall under the standard NEC requirements for grounded receptacles, and any licensed electrician in Iowa will wire the circuit to code without a second thought.

GFCI is a question that comes up occasionally because garage circuits are often GFCI-protected by code depending on the jurisdiction and the era of construction. Some pump motors do not love GFCI because the inrush current can trip the GFCI sensor. Wire the lights to a wall switch by the door, not to a pull chain, because you will be flipping them on and off frequently. Add a second switch by the workbench if that saves you a walk.
