If you’re planning to do tire rotations, brake jobs, and general weekend wrenching on your daily driver and a project car, you need a lift that fits your ceiling, sits on your slab, and lifts to a height where you can walk around underneath. Overhead-style two-posts — the pros and cons

An overhead two-post has a cross-tube at the top connecting the two columns, with the hydraulic hose, equalization cables, and control lines running through that top tube. Pros: clear floor under the lift with nothing to trip over, hoses out of the way of tools and creepers, cleaner shop appearance. Cons: needs 12 to 14 feet of ceiling for full lift height, cross-tube limits vehicle height at full lift, harder to reach the cables and hoses for maintenance because they’re up in the tube.
