Rotary has been building lifts since 1925 and is currently owned by Vehicle Service Group, which also owns Forward and Chief. That parent-company depth means the parts pipeline is unusually deep even for older Rotary models — cables, cylinders, seals, and safety cams for lifts built in the 1990s are still stocked. Challenger has a shorter but continuous history and sits in the same Vehicle Service Group portfolio through corporate acquisitions of the past decade. Both brands, in other words, are alive and well-supported. That’s not something we can say about every lift brand that was sold in the Midwest thirty years ago. If you bought a Bishamon, an Ammco, or a Weaver in 1998, you’re on your own for parts. If you buy a Rotary or Challenger in 2026, you have a real parts pipeline in 2041.

Rotary’s parts pipeline in the Midwest

Rotary keeps regional distribution centers that reach most of Iowa and Missouri on a two-day ground shipment. Common wear parts — cables, sheaves, arm restraint kits, safety ladders, hydraulic hoses — are on the shelf. Cylinders and power units are usually a three-to-five day order but rarely a backorder. Rare structural parts like columns or overhead bars are custom-order and can take three to six weeks.

For a fleet shop, labor and shipping are often the bigger expenses in a warranty event. Read the fine print before you buy on warranty length alone. A five-year warranty from a brand with a robust dealer network and reasonable shipping is often more valuable than a ten-year warranty from a brand that requires you to freight a column back to a factory. Both Rotary and Challenger have workable dealer networks in the Midwest, so this concern is smaller than it would be with an off-brand car lift automotive purchase. If you’re evaluating a lower-priced import brand alongside Rotary and Challenger, the warranty pipeline is where the real cost difference shows up — often five or ten years into ownership.

Two-post workhorses: Rotary SPO12 vs Challenger CL10

Both are workhorse models with mature parts pipelines, both fit a standard fleet bay, and both are appropriate for a mixed vehicle load ranging from passenger cars up through three-quarter-ton trucks.

The SPO12 gives you a capacity margin — 12K versus 10K — that matters if the fleet includes any dually work trucks or if you plan to grow into heavier equipment. The CL10V3 is roughly ten percent cheaper on hardware and installs on the same anchor pattern. For most fleet shops running light-duty vans and half-ton trucks, the CL10V3 is enough. For fleet shops running three-quarter-ton and above, the SPO12 is worth the extra spend. We install both regularly on the Iowa-Missouri border and both hold up.
