The lift itself, a Rotary SM12, is 22 feet 6 inches overall length (including ramps), 8 feet 8 inches wide, and 8 feet 4 inches tall at its highest lock position. That leaves 6 feet 2 inches of clear space above the top vehicle when parked at max lift height – enough for a full-size SUV underneath a mid-height sedan on top.
Vehicle dimensions matter equally. Grandfather’s stored car is a 1965 Ford Mustang convertible: 71 inches wide, 51 inches tall, roughly 3,000 lb curb weight. Family sedan underneath: a modern Toyota Camry, 72 inches wide, 57 inches tall, about 3,400 lb curb weight. Stack them and the top of the Camry sits at 57 inches, then the runway deck sits eight feet above that, then the Mustang sits on top with its 51-inch height, reaching a peak of roughly 14 feet 3 inches from the shop floor. Ceiling clearance is 14 feet 6 inches – three inches of overhead. Tight but workable. Real numbers, real fit. Those are the measurements every family garage needs to walk through before ordering.
Concrete Requirements for a 20+ Year Install

First: cycle the lift monthly even while the stored car sits. That keeps cylinder seals lubricated and prevents dry side issues where hydraulic oil settles away from the seal face. Second: keep the stored vehicle at a working lock position, not at hydraulic pressure only. The mechanical lock is what holds long-term; hydraulics are just for the trip up and the trip down. Third: check tire pressure on the stored vehicle every 3 months because tires on a lift still slowly deflate.
