Freight and unloading are where a car lift install goes sideways more often than anywhere else. When a car lift ships to an install address, the freight desk usually offers three delivery types. Standard commercial delivery assumes you have a dock and a pallet jack. Liftgate delivery brings the crate down to ground level using a hydraulic gate on the back of the truck, so a shop without a dock can accept it. Residential delivery is the most expensive option and assumes limited access, a smaller truck, and often a scheduled window rather than a same-day drop.
For any shop that does not have a real dock, liftgate delivery is the only option that does not require you to have a forklift on standby at the address. We tell every customer this up front, and we build the freight line into the initial quote assuming liftgate unless the customer specifically confirms they have dock access. The overhead configuration cleared his 12-foot ceiling with about six inches to spare — which we had already verified during the pre-install site survey.
Arms went on next, then the hydraulic lines routed along the column and across the top, power unit mounted on the primary column at ergonomic height, cables tensioned, and the first pressure test done with no vehicle on the arms. We ran the lift up and down through its full travel three times, checked for hydraulic leaks, verified the safety latches engaged at every position, and then set his first customer car — a family sedan — on the pads for a functional test. The whole install took most of a working day and finished on schedule.
