Step five: anchor torque, plumb columns, and the day-of checks

Both columns get plumbed vertical, and the deviation is checked with a three-foot level on all four column faces before load is applied. The overhead crossbar, if present, gets torqued to spec and cycled once dry before the first vehicle rolls on. Cables and hoses get inspected end to end, and the equalizer bar is checked for level after the first three cycles.

Step seven: teach the household who can raise it and who cannot
Safety-first ownership does not end at install. It continues every day the lift lives in a shared garage. Set a house rule about who can operate the lift and who cannot. Store the control key or the power switch out of reach of curious kids. Do a monthly walkaround where you check cable tension, lock function, and anchor status. Cycle the safety locks with weight on the lift at least once a month so the pawls stay free.
