We walked this customer through two configurations side by side. Layout one put the two-post lift centered in a single 12-foot-wide bay with the power unit against the back wall, columns positioned for a symmetric arm swing. Layout two shifted the lift toward one side of a wider bay, asymmetric arms angled to open up a walk-around path on the driver’s side where he does most of his oil pan and gasket work.

With the vehicle offset toward one wall, he gained several feet of dedicated clearance on his working side — enough for a tool cart, a drain pan cart, and room to move a creeper without bumping a column. Asymmetric arms also make door-opening easier on the side you’re not actively using for underbody work, which matters when you’re getting in and out of the cab between steps of an oil pan gasket job. We measured to the safety bar at maximum lift height, not just to the vehicle roofline, because that’s the true clearance number that matters. For his fleet of pickups and vans, we also checked that the columns wouldn’­t interfere with side mirrors or extended cargo areas when vehicles pulled in and out.
