Before you fall in love with a specific 2 post hydraulic lift, measure your actual ceiling height at the exact spot the lift will sit, including any garage door tracks, ductwork, or light fixtures that hang lower than the rest of the ceiling. Differential service means you’ll frequently be running vehicles to full height to get underneath comfortably, and a lift that maxes out at 12 feet overall height needs roughly 12 feet of clear ceiling — not 12 feet at the peak of a vaulted section 3 feet to the left.

For differential work specifically, you’re spending a lot of time standing under the rear axle, so factor in headroom clearance below the vehicle as well as ceiling clearance above the lift — a lift positioned too close to a side wall makes it awkward to get a drain pan and torque wrench in comfortably.
