This is the myth we hear most, and it usually comes from a tech who used one badly-maintained lift years ago and blamed the arm geometry instead of the maintenance. An asymmetrical car lift is not less safe than a symmetrical one. Both configurations are engineered, tested, and certified to the same ANSI/ALI standards when built by a reputable manufacturer. The difference is purely where the columns and arms sit relative to the vehicle’s center of gravity, not how much weight the lift can safely carry.

What actually creates risk is skipping the pad placement step.
