Why Slab Thickness Is the First Question We Ask

Before we quote anyone an atlas 4 post car lift, we ask about the concrete. A lift that needs a slightly wider stance for stability might not leave room to dodge rebar in a tight single-stall garage, so this is a conversation that happens during the quote stage, not during installation. Get this wrong and you’re either drilling into steel or compromising anchor depth, neither of which we’re willing to do on a lift that’s going to be loaded and unloaded daily by a working mechanic.

Sizing for Differential Fluid Service and Underbody Work

Differential service means spending real time underneath a vehicle, which changes what we recommend compared to someone who just wants extra storage. The mobile mechanic we worked with needed drive-through clearance, good height adjustability for working at a comfortable level, and a rated capacity that covered his heaviest truck with margin to spare. There’s no need to find and hook up specific lift points every time, which matters when you’re moving fast between multiple vehicles in a day. You drive on, you lock the ramps, and you’re up.

The tradeoff is underbody access — a straight 4-post runway blocks some of the area you’d reach easily with a 2-post’s open middle section. That’s why we talked with this customer about adding a rolling bridge jack or slip plates down the line if he found himself doing more suspension or exhaust work that needs full center access. For pure differential service and general fluid work, though, the drive-on convenience of an atlas 4 post car lift won out, and it’s held up well through several months of regular use.
