Overbuying capacity by a small margin costs very little extra and saves you from outgrowing the equipment in three years. Two-Post vs. Four-Post for a Home Bay

Four-post lifts are better suited to storage and alignment-adjacent work since the vehicle sits on runways rather than hanging from arms, but they eat more floor space and don’t give you the same open access underneath. The tradeoff is that four-post units are generally easier for less experienced users to drive onto safely, since there’s no arm positioning involved. If your household includes more than one driver who might use the lift, that ease-of-use factor is worth weighing against the underbody access you give up.

Concrete Requirements Nobody Mentions Upfront

Two-post lifts anchor into concrete, and not every home garage slab is thick enough or cured long enough to hold anchors safely under load. We typically want to see at least 4 inches of properly cured concrete, ideally without heavy cracking near the anchor points. New construction slabs need to cure fully — rushing anchor installation into concrete that’s only a few weeks old is a real risk we won’t take on.

If your slab doesn’t meet spec, that doesn’t rule out lifts entirely — it just points you toward a four-post or low-rise unit that distributes weight over a larger footprint instead of concentrated anchor points. We check this on every install quote before we ever talk final numbers, because finding out about a concrete problem after delivery is a bad day for everyone.
