If we’re coring new anchor holes, leveling an uneven slab, or running new electrical, that adds hours and cost. Cable replacement isn’t expensive compared to the rest of the lift’s cost, but it’s one of those things that gets deferred indefinitely if nobody’s watching for it. Frayed strands, flat spots, or visible rust are the warning signs — if you see any of those, stop using the lift until it’s replaced. We’ve seen shops buy a 9,000 lb lift because that covers most sedans and light trucks, only to realize six months later they need to lift a one-ton dually or a vehicle with a heavy aftermarket bumper and winch setup. Going one capacity tier higher up front is almost always cheaper than upgrading later.

For heavy truck and fab shops, we typically point people toward asymmetric two-post configurations in the 12,000 to 18,000 lb range, which give better door clearance for extended cab and dually trucks while still fitting in a standard bay. If the shop is also doing frame or underbody welding, a four-post or a lift that goes to full extension height matters more than raw capacity. This is exactly the kind of decision that’s worth a phone call before you order anything, since the wrong configuration means redoing anchor points later.
