A four-post lift or a mechanical storage lift, by contrast, lifts by the tires resting on runways, which means you need a separate set of rolling jacks under the frame to get wheels off the ground for rotation work.

If tire and wheel work is your main reason for buying, a two-post model is the more direct tool for the job. But if you also want to use the lift for overnight vehicle storage — parking one car above another to double your garage’s usable footprint — a four-post or mechanical storage configuration does double duty in a way a two-post can’t. Height Adjustment Increments Matter More Than You’d Think

One detail hobbyists rarely think to ask about until they’re mid-job is how finely a lift’s height adjusts.
