The lift went up, came down, held cars fine for the first few months. What nobody flagged until later was that the motor was drawing closer to its rated max on that circuit than it should have been, which matters a lot once you’re cycling the lift multiple times a week for differential fluid changes across a rotating collection of cars instead of once a month for an oil change.

Most single-phase power units on residential and light-commercial two post lifts run on 220-240V, and the difference between a properly sized dedicated circuit and a shared one shows up as slow lifts, tripped breakers, and — eventually — a burned-out motor that turns into an unplanned parts order. If you’re stocking car lift parts as spares, a spare motor or contactor for your specific power unit is worth having on the shelf before you need it, not after a breaker trips mid-service with a car in the air.

Differential fluid service is repetitive by nature — you’re not doing a full brake job, you’re draining, filling, and moving on to the next car in the collection. That means the lift components taking the most wear are the ones involved in every single cycle: cables, sheaves, and the hydraulic lines feeding the cylinders.
