If your bay ceiling is 12 feet or taller, overhead is usually the better fit because you get that clearance without sacrificing anything on lifting capacity.

The tradeoff is ceiling height. We’ve walked into more than one Urbandale shop where the owner wanted overhead but had a 10-foot ceiling with HVAC ductwork running right through the lift zone.
