Start With Ceiling Height, Not Weight Capacity

If your floor was poured within the last 30 days, it likely hasn’t reached full cure strength and anchoring into it can compromise the anchor bolts. We’ve walked away from installs where the floor simply wasn’t ready, and rescheduling for 30 more days of cure time is far cheaper than repouring after a lift shifts under load. If you’re not sure what you’re working with, send us photos and the pour date before you buy anything.

Match Capacity to What You Actually Haul

Power, Air, and Utility Runs Before Install Day

Every 2 post lift needs 220V single phase power at minimum, and heavy duty models often draw more amperage than farm shop electrical panels were originally sized for. Before install day, confirm your panel has an open breaker slot rated for the lift’s motor and run the conduit to the install location ahead of time if you can.

Air line access matters too if you’re running impact tools or air-assisted arm locks near the lift bay. We’d rather find out about a panel that’s maxed out during the site survey than on install morning when our crew is standing there with a lift half-assembled. If your shop is older or was wired for lighting and a welder more than power tools, it’s worth having an electrician look at the panel before we schedule the install so there are no surprises.

Column Spacing and Drive-Through Clearance

Farm trucks and trailers are long, and a heavy duty 2 post lift needs enough width between the columns and enough drive-through depth for you to actually get the vehicle positioned without clipping a column or running out of room behind it. Standard column spacing works for most pickups, but if you’re routinely lifting extended cab trucks with towing mirrors or wide fender flares, you need the wider column spacing option.

Walk off the actual bay width with a tape measure, not a guess, and account for at least 3 feet of clearance on each side of the vehicle once it’s parked between the columns. We also ask about door height and width since getting a lifted one-ton truck through a farm shop door with a full-size flatbed can be tighter than people expect. Get this right during the planning stage and you’ll never have to explain to us why the truck won’t fit between the posts on install day.

Arm Configuration for Trucks and Trailers

Not every heavy duty 2 post lift arm setup works well for farm equipment. Trucks with running boards, diesel trucks with low-hanging skid plates, and trailers with unusual frame rail spacing all need arms with enough reach and the right pad height range to find solid lift points without contacting anything fragile underneath.

Ask about asymmetric arm designs, which shift the columns slightly forward relative to the vehicle to make room for doors to open fully once it’s raised, something that matters if you’re going to be standing under the vehicle working on wheel bearings for extended periods. We also recommend truck adapters or tall extensions if you’re regularly lifting duallies or trucks with aftermarket lift kits, since stock arm reach sometimes falls short.
