Because the cylinder and cable run of an inground car lift sit below the floor, techs assume they’re somehow protected from the environment. Brake and rotor work loads a vehicle differently than general maintenance. Techs are frequently working with wheels off, weight shifted, sometimes bouncing or applying force to break corroded rotors loose. On an inground car lift, that lateral stress transfers down through the platform arms into the cable and cylinder assembly in ways a straight vertical lift-and-hold cycle doesn’t produce.
