During the walkthrough with this fleet, we ran the lift through a full cycle with a mid-weight service vehicle and had the tech confirm both columns caught evenly. We worked with this fleet to build a simple pre-lift routine: position the arms, confirm restraint engagement visually and by hand, raise to working height, confirm the safety-cam catch, then begin the rotor work. It takes maybe fifteen extra seconds per vehicle.

Over a full day of brake service across a dozen vehicles, that routine adds a few minutes total and eliminates the guesswork that leads to shortcuts. Fleet crews are often under pressure to turn vehicles quickly, and it’s exactly that pressure that causes safety steps to get skipped. Having a fast, repeatable check built into the workflow — rather than treated as a separate safety briefing nobody remembers — is what actually makes it stick on a busy fleet floor.

What a Lift Store Should Be Checking During Fleet Visits

We don’t treat the sale as the finish line with fleet accounts. On our service visits, we check arm restraint hardware for wear, confirm safety-cam engagement timing on both columns, and inspect the anchor bolts for any movement given how many cycles a fleet lift sees compared to a standard shop. This particular fleet runs enough volume that we recommended a check every service interval instead of the longer window we’d suggest for lower-volume shops.

That’s the kind of detail that separates a lift store built for ongoing support from one that disappears after delivery. Fleet managers evaluating vendors should ask directly: who inspects the safety systems after install, how often, and what happens if a part needs replacing. If the answer is vague, that’s a sign to keep shopping. We’d rather lose a sale to a shop that asks hard questions than sell equipment to a fleet that never gets the safety walkthrough it needs.
