Our customer’s garage had roughly nine feet of clearance under a set of exposed rafters, which sounds like plenty until you account for the height of a two-post lift’s columns plus the vehicle sitting on top of it. A two-post that size would have put the columns almost touching the ceiling structure, with no margin for a taller pickup or a van with a raised roof. That ruled out the two-post option almost immediately, and it’s the single most common reason we steer mobile mechanics and home garage owners toward a mid rise scissor lift instead.

A mid rise scissor lift solves this because the platform itself sits low to the ground when down, and even at full rise height it typically adds far less overall stack height than a two-post’s columns and overhead structure.
