An overhead mid rise scissor lift has its power unit and hydraulic hoses routed up and over the platform, typically mounted on a post or bracket above the lift itself. For a fleet shop doing back-to-back tire rotation and wheel work, that clean floor matters more than people expect. The tradeoff is ceiling height. We recommend a basic visual inspection weekly for a fleet running daily wheel work, and a full service inspection at least twice a year — more often if the shop runs six days a week.

Overhead configurations tend to have slightly easier hose access for inspection since the routing is visible and up out of the way of foot traffic and debris. Baseplate units can accumulate more grime and metal shavings around the floor-level hydraulics simply because they’re down where the work happens. Either style holds up fine with regular maintenance — the failures we see in the field almost always trace back to a shop that skipped inspections for a year or two, not a design flaw in the lift itself.

Installation Timeline and What to Expect

A single mid rise scissor lift install in an existing Marion shop typically takes a day for surface mount, longer if you’re flush mounting and need concrete work.
