Buying above your actual duty cycle wastes budget on structural capacity you’ll never use; buying below it means the lift becomes the bottleneck the moment a heavier truck rolls in. Runway Length, Width, and Drive-Through Clearance Compared

Runway dimensions vary more between models than most service managers expect, and this is where the northern Missouri dealership’s original quote fell short. Standard runway lengths on heavy-duty platforms run from around 20 feet up to 24-26 feet on extended configurations, and the difference matters directly for tandem and tri-axle trucks that need room to sit level with the drive axle centered on the lift.

For a dealership running frequent wheel bearing and hub service, we generally recommend the jack-equipped configuration even at a higher upfront cost, because the labor time saved per job adds up fast at dealership volume. Anchoring, Concrete, and Site Requirements Across Models

Heavier-rated models generally require thicker, higher-strength concrete and deeper anchor embedment, which can turn into an unplanned site-prep cost if it’s not checked before ordering.

Maintenance costs, cable and hydraulic component replacement intervals, and parts availability all vary by brand and model, and a slightly cheaper lift with hard-to-source parts can cost more over five years than a pricier model backed by a strong parts pipeline.
