Capacity, Arm Design, and Adapters

For a body shop mostly working passenger cars and light trucks, a 10,000 lb 2 post car lift is the sweet spot. Going up to 12K adds cost with limited real benefit unless you are dropping engines on 3/4 ton diesels weekly. What matters more than headline capacity is arm reach. Three-stage telescoping arms in the front, two-stage in the rear, and a full adapter kit (frame pads, pinch weld pads, tall stack pads for exhaust work) will handle 95 percent of what rolls through a body shop. For a body shop working with vehicles of unpredictable height (SUV one minute, lowered sedan the next), that overhead cutoff is a fender-saver. The mechanical safety locks are the other half of the safety story.
