Add capacity and you climb from there: 12,000 lb, 15,000 lb, and 18,000 lb configurations each step up a defined amount, and heavy-duty three-stage or 30,000 lb setups are a separate conversation.
For a quick-lube operator adding a single bay’s worth of lift capacity, our first recommendation is usually the Rotary SPOA10 or the Challenger CL10 at 10,000 pounds symmetric clearfloor. Both handle a passenger-car and light-truck book of business easily, both have the arm reach for wheel-bearing and brake work on that fleet, and both come with parts availability we can back up. BendPak’s XPR-10S is a good option in the same class, particularly if the operator already has BendPak equipment elsewhere and wants a matched fleet. Freight from the manufacturer to a southern Minnesota bay

Freight to southern Minnesota is a moderate line item, usually a few hundred dollars for a small-commercial delivery. Two variables push freight higher. The first is delivery type. From arrival to a functional lift with a first-cycle test typically runs six to eight working hours. Our per-install labor rate is bundled into the total quote we provide the operator, not billed hourly on the day. That matters for a franchise operator who has to plan against a fixed capital-expense number, not a variable one.
The labor covers the anchor drilling, column placement and squaring, overhead beam installation, cable routing, hydraulic connection, initial reservoir fill and bleed, full safety-latch and arm-restraint verification, first cycle test, and the safety walkthrough with the shop team. Startup training for the operator’s techs is part of the day. We show them how to load the pads, engage the safety locks, use the manual override, and identify any warning signs they should call us about in the future. What we do not cover on install day: electrical rough-in, if the shop does not already have a dedicated circuit at the column location, and any concrete work needed to reinforce a substandard slab. Concrete, electrical, and the site-work line items
Two site-work items sometimes need attention before a 2 post car lift can be safely installed. The first is concrete. Every commercial 2 post car lift requires a minimum floor thickness and PSI rating, and the anchor pattern needs to fall on solid material, not on an expansion joint or a saw-cut line. Most quick-lube bays have adequate floor, but not all, and older shops built on retrofitted foundations sometimes surprise us.
If the floor comes back below spec on our survey, the fix is a poured reinforced pad, typically a few square yards of new concrete at the required thickness, with rebar, tied into the existing slab. Cost varies with the pad size and local concrete rates, but budget a few hundred to a low four-figure number depending on scope. We coordinate with a local concrete sub if the operator does not have one already. Electrical is the second item. A single-phase 240V circuit at the appropriate amperage is the standard requirement for most 10,000 lb 2 post car lift power units, and quick-lube shops often already have that capacity. If they do not, an electrician needs to add a dedicated breaker and run the line to the lift location. Wheel-bearing work — the revenue math that made it pencil
Here is the argument that closed the deal for the operator. On his pre-lift book of business, he was turning away wheel-bearing jobs because his pit setup could not safely get the wheels off the ground for that work. Those jobs walked to the independent shop across the highway, and each one was worth several hundred dollars in labor plus parts markup.
With a 2 post car lift in one bay, he could keep that work in-house. Estimate: two wheel-bearing jobs a week, average ticket in the mid-to-high three-figure range. That is a five-figure annual revenue add, all captured on jobs he was already turning away. He also picked up brake caliper work, control-arm bushing replacements, and some minor suspension jobs that need the wheels off the ground. Every one of those adds to the same picture.
