Full-rise still has a place — you need it for anything requiring under-vehicle standing room, drivetrain drops, or full battery pack service. The bushings we see fail first are the sintered ones on budget scissors; the Rotary and Challenger units run either bronze or self-lubricating alternatives that last two to three times longer. Cylinder wall thickness is the other one — a chromed cylinder with 3.5mm wall on a value-brand unit versus 5mm+ on a commercial unit. Under daily EV shop use, that thinner cylinder will start weeping fluid inside three years. Buy once, cry once, and pick a mid rise scissor lift built for the duty cycle you’ll actually put it through.

Trade-in strategy that actually holds value in Iowa City
