Start With What You’re Actually Lifting

The first branch in the decision tree is simple: what’s the heaviest, longest, and lowest vehicle that regularly comes through your doors? A restoration shop that mostly touches muscle cars and light trucks is squarely in Rotary SPO10 territory — 10,000 lbs of capacity is more than enough headroom, and the asymmetric arm geometry gives you the door-clearance and driveline access that symmetric lifts can’t match. The second branch is about vehicle shape, not just weight. Restoration and classic work means low-slung bodies, custom rocker panels, and frame configurations the factory never anticipated. That’s where the SPO10’s arm and pad flexibility matters — you need enough adapter height and swing to get contact points under a chopped hot rod or a car sitting on air bags without gouging fresh bodywork. Arm Configuration for Exhaust and Driveline Access

Step up a tier and you add features like a taller lift height for maximum ground clearance, upgraded pad sets for delicate bodywork, or a power unit configuration that speeds up cycle time if you’re moving vehicles through quickly. Neither tier is wrong; it depends on your shop’s daily rhythm.

The top tier is where shops doing high-end concours or show-car restoration land — additional adapter kits, extended arm reach for stretched or lengthened frames, and sometimes a second lift purchased alongside it so cars can sit mid-restoration for weeks without tying up your only bay.
