For a shop doing straight oil changes and fluid service all day, throughput matters. A symmetric lift centers the vehicle directly between the columns, which is simple and predictable, but it also means the driver has to open the door wider to swing a leg out past the column — not a big deal once, but multiplied across 20-plus vehicles a day it adds seconds and awkward angles. An asymmetric configuration rotates the columns back, offsetting the vehicle toward the rear posts and opening a wider path at the front doors.

Techs need to get lift pads under factory-recommended points quickly, drain pans need clearance underneath, and arms need to swing out of the way without hanging up on rocker panels.
