With 12-foot sidewalls, we had to confirm the lift’s maximum rise wouldn’t put a raised vehicle into the roof trusses or any overhead lighting. We measured door swing and drive-in clearance too, since a 2-post lift placed too close to a bay door can make pulling a truck in awkward. All of this got marked on the slab with paint before the crew ever showed up with the lift itself.

Choosing the Lift for the Actual Use Case

For a mobile mechanic doing oil changes and fluid service as a home base, we didn’t recommend the heaviest-duty commercial lift in our lineup — that would have been overkill for a 7,000 lb passenger vehicle rating and would have eaten more of the 30×40 footprint than necessary. We also discussed lighting placement relative to lift height, since a vehicle raised to full rise can block overhead fixtures if they weren’t planned around the lift’s footprint. Getting utilities sequenced correctly during framing, rather than retrofitted afterward, kept this build on schedule and avoided the kind of rework that turns a two-week project into a two-month one.

Installation Day and Inspection

By the time our crew arrived to actually install the lift, the concrete had cured well past the minimum window, anchor locations were marked and confirmed, and the electrical was already live. That preparation is what let us complete the install in a single day rather than stretching it across multiple return trips. We set anchors, connected hydraulic lines, ran the lift through full cycle testing, and checked lock engagement at multiple height settings before signing off.

We also walked the mechanic through basic maintenance — cable or chain tension checks, hydraulic fluid levels, and how often to inspect anchor torque — since a home-base shop won’t have the same daily-use oversight as a commercial bay. Getting this handoff right matters just as much as the physical install itself.
