Differential and driveline work means longer dwell time under the vehicle than a typical oil change, and it usually means the truck sits at full rise for 30 to 90 minutes while fluid drains and refills. That extended load, combined with the wider track width and higher curb weight of one-ton and medium-duty trucks, puts more torque through the pivot pins and forged arm sections than most shops account for when they buy a lift. We’ve pulled arms off two-post lifts in central Iowa that were bent at the pivot from being asked to reach the frame rails on a dual-rear-wheel truck — the arm was rated for the lift’s overall capacity, but not for that kind of reach at that kind of duty cycle.

Before approving a heavy-duty lift purchase, ask your installer for the arm’s rated reach at full extension, the pivot pin diameter, and whether the arm restraint system is rated for the vehicle weights you actually run. Ask about anchor requirements against your specific slab thickness and cure date, not a generic spec sheet number. And ask what the lead time is on replacement arms for that specific model — heavy-duty arms are often built to order, and a shop that goes down waiting six weeks for a replacement arm loses far more than the cost difference between lift brands.
