Baseplate Configuration: Lower Cost, Fewer Ceiling Demands

A baseplate vehicle storage lift runs its hydraulic and lift mechanism through the base rather than an overhead beam, which means the shop doesn’t need the extra clear ceiling height an overhead unit demands. For a truck shop with a lower roofline, that alone can decide the configuration before cost even enters the conversation. Baseplate units also tend to run cheaper on the equipment line item, since there’s less steel in the overhead structure and simpler shipping.

Where baseplate configurations cost a shop is in floor clearance for wheel bearing work. If a tech needs to get underneath a parked vehicle to pull a hub assembly or work on a bearing, the baseplate’s crossmembers can be in the way depending on model and how the vehicle is positioned on the runways.
