Mid-rise scissor lifts fit low-ceiling bays and quick-service work — tires, brakes, oil — without eating the whole footprint. Mobile column sets are the answer for buses, RVs, and medium-duty trucks where you need the flexibility to lift anything and then roll the columns out of the way. Inground lifts free the floor completely, which matters in a tight quick-lube or a dealership express bay, at the price of a more involved install. Lift power units come in single-phase and three-phase configurations, and which one you can actually use depends on the service coming into your building. Single-phase units at 208-230V work fine for the vast majority of shop lifts; they just draw more current, so verify your breaker capacity and wire gauge before install day.
Air matters too. Most two-post lifts use a pneumatic release for the safety locks, meaning you need shop air routed to the columns — not a big deal if your lines are already run, a same-week problem if they aren’t.
