The tradeoff is that the rolling jack itself is an added cost on top of the lift, and technicians need to get comfortable centering the jack correctly under a pack that’s often not centered exactly where you’d expect. Mobile Column Lifts for Flexible Bays

Mobile column lifts aren’t the first thing people think of for battery work, but they solve a real problem for shops that don’t want to dedicate a bay permanently to EV service. A set of columns rolls into position around the vehicle’s lift points and raises it in sync, leaving the entire underside open, similar to what a two-post arrangement would give you but without fixed posts eating into your floor plan.

The advantage here is flexibility. The same set of columns can lift a heavy-duty truck one day and an EV the next, and they store against a wall when not in use. For shops that see EVs only occasionally but still want a real answer instead of jacks and blocks, mobile columns are a legitimate middle-ground choice among ev battery service lift options. The tradeoff is you’ll still want a separate battery cart or table underneath to actually catch the pack once it’s free, since the columns themselves only lift the vehicle.
