Why a Standard Garage Falls Short for Overland Builds

Most overland vehicles start life as a half-ton or three-quarter-ton truck, a Land Cruiser, a 4Runner, or a Jeep, and by the time roof racks, bumpers, sliders, drawers, water tanks, and recovery gear go on, curb weight climbs well past what a home garage lift was ever designed to hold. Add a lifted suspension and larger tires, and ground clearance changes how arms and pads need to sit under the frame. A 2-post lift gives full underbody access for suspension, skid plate, and exhaust work with nothing blocking the frame, which is valuable when you’re mounting sliders or long-travel suspension. But it requires solid factory frame contact points, and heavily modified trucks with aftermarket bumpers and armor sometimes complicate arm placement.

A 4-post lift, by contrast, drives on like a ramp and doesn’t rely on frame pickup points at all, which makes it more forgiving for trucks with non-standard armor already installed.
